About me

Hello, I’m Angela Chamberlain, founder of New Additions and a former NHS midwife with a lifelong passion for supporting and empowering women.

My journey into holistic health began during my years as a midwife, when I experienced personal challenges with my own health and wellbeing. These struggles led me to explore alternative therapies and natural approaches to healing — not only did they help me, but they transformed my life. Every therapy I now offer is something that has made a profound difference to me personally, and it’s from that place of genuine experience that I share these powerful healing modalities with others.

Since leaving the NHS, I’ve dedicated myself to training in a variety of complementary therapies. I am now qualified in:

  • Medical Acupuncture

  • Reiki

  • Silent Counselling

  • 3-Step Rewind (Trauma Release)

  • Closing the Bones Facilitator

  • Women’s Circles

  • Mother Blessings

Alongside these, I also have extensive knowledge of alternative medicine and regularly use homeopathy, aromatherapy, herbs, and tinctures in my daily life. I always seek natural, gentle approaches to health and healing for myself and my family.

Other work

My passion for supporting women hasn’t diminished — it’s only grown. I remain deeply committed to improving maternity care both in the UK and internationally. I contribute to this mission through guest lecturing at universities, sitting on expert validation panels for Midwifery and Nursing diplomas, and moderating for several colleges. I also speak at wellness events and conferences, advocating for holistic, woman-centred care.

In addition, I co-run a training academy— where we educate and empower the next generation of birth keepers around the world, ensuring more women have access to the care, respect, and dignity they deserve during pregnancy and birth.

Beyond my professional life, I’m a wife and proud mother to three wonderful young men. I find joy in travel, live music, reading, and spending time in nature. I feel incredibly grateful to do work that aligns so closely with my purpose — it’s not just a career, it’s a calling. What I do truly fulfils my soul, and for that, I am thankful every day.

“I had four lovely Reiki sessions with Angela she was very professional and explained exactly what she would be doing. I am always a very stressed out person and found i gradually felt much less stressed after each session. During the sessions i felt completely at ease and completely relaxed and found the Reiki really helped me my partner actually said he thought i seemed much more patient over those weeks of having Reiki. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Angela to anyone. The sessions left me feeling so relaxed and calm.”

“I have recently finished the 3 step process with Angela. My baby died shortly after birth and I had been having trouble sleeping. I had been thinking over and over again about being in the hospital. The 3 step programme helped me to improve sleep. I could listen to Angela’s relaxation recordings and they always stopped me overthinking and helped me relax and get to sleep. I found it helpful to go through what had happened in a safe place and to allow my brain the opportunity to process the experience more. My sleep and anxiety has improved after the 3 step process.”

What is a Birth Keeper?

While there is no official definition of a birth keeper, my personal interpretation is:

A birth keeper is someone with a deep understanding of physiological birth — the natural, undisturbed process of labour and delivery — who provides emotional, informational, and practical support to women and their families during pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Birth keepers do not offer clinical care. Instead, we hold space, advocate for, and walk alongside women as they make empowered, informed choices about their birth experiences. We offer unwavering support, help navigate the complexities of the medical system and gently guide women in trusting their own instincts and bodies.

A birth keeper recognises when additional medical input may be needed and can support you in seeking it, if appropriate. However, our primary role is to ensure that you feel truly heard, respected, and supported throughout your journey.

Because we are not constrained by rigid appointment times or clinical protocols, birth keepers can offer truly individualised care. We take the time to understand your fears, desires, values, and hopes — creating a safe, nurturing space where you never feel rushed or pressured. Instead, you feel held, honoured, and empowered.
